Os terramotos políticos não são tão raros, como ficou demonstrado pela vitória considerada improvável de Donald Trump, em 8 de Novembro de 2016. A média terminou na área da economia, após 2008, devido à grande recessão, e é de acreditar que será difícil criar um crescimento económico robusto e sustentado como defende Tyler Cowen no seu livro “Average Is Over: Powering America Beyond the Age of the Great Stagnation”.

There are lots of hermit crabs in the tide pools near my summer house.

They’re interesting little creatures.

A hermit crab will find a shell that fits him, put it on, and live in it.

After a while, he grows and the shell no longer fits, so the crab scurries along the sea floor and finds another shell to live in.

He crawls out of his first shell and into the shell that fits his new needs.

This scene repeats itself again and again throughout his life.

Learn a lesson from the hermit crabs.

O início do dia das eleições nos Estados Unidos, foi marcado por dez baralhados inquéritos nacionais, em que oito davam a vitória a Hillary Clinton, um anunciava um empate e o último apostava na vitória de Donald Trump. No final da longa vigília, os embaraçados comentadores interrogavam-se de quem seriam os Secretários de Estado do candidato vencedor, quais seriam as grandes linhas de acção da sua futura gestão à frente dos destinos do país, de como seria a sua ligação com ambas as câmaras, após ter dado a vitória no Senado ao Partido Republicano, e como seria a sua relação dentro do mesmo partido, com a actual liderança que lhe virou as costas.
